Community Guidelines

Last updated: June 22th, 2022

abillion is a platform to guide people in making social impact and sustainability a habit for everyone.

When the guidelines are followed, we’ll be able to build a successful movement with the help of a strong, supportive community. As the platform continues to improve, we hope that abillion helps more consumers and businesses to make decisions guided by compassion, social responsibility and sustainability.

1. Reviews

A review should have a clear photograph, taken by the member submitting the image, of a purchased item. The accompanying caption should be at least 50 characters long. And the product must be vegan. The name of the dish/product should be specific and match what is displayed on the business’ menu/website. While all products and dishes reviewed on abillion are vegan, reviews by fellow members may not list allergen information. Members are responsible for checking if products or dishes contain allergens for themselves.

1.1 Photos

  • Share only photos that you have taken yourself; screenshots and photos taken from other websites are not acceptable. Photos should be clear. Think about it this way: only post photos of the quality that you would be proud to share with your friends.

  • Inappropriate and vulgar photos will not be accepted.

  • The photos should correspond with the review. For example, if you review a product, upload a photo of the product, not the store.

  • The clear focus of the photos should be of the dish or product.

  • Funds for donation will only be allocated to members for reviews with photos that meet guidelines.

1.2 Text

  • Be specific with your reviews in terms of what you enjoyed or didn’t enjoy about the dish, product, brand or restaurant. This allows other members to know more about the dish/product, and restaurants or brands to receive constructive feedback.

  • Reviews that contain false and dishonest information are contrary to our guidelines and not permitted.

  • Reviews have a 50 character minimum. This is to ensure reviews are clear, relevant, and add value to the community.

  • Reviews can be in any language you’re most comfortable using. We want to build a diverse, global community

1.3 Dishes

  • All reviewed dishes must be vegan, and therefore contain no animal products (including eggs, dairy and honey). Dishes that are obviously not vegan will be removed.

  • A dish is something that is served from a physical restaurant, takeaway or delivery. Dishes created at home (home-cooked food) do not count towards a dish review.

  • Names of dishes should be accurate, and ideally, come from the restaurant’s menu/website.

1.4 Products

  • Reviewed products must not contain any animal products (including eggs, milk, honey and any other animal derivative). If you’re not sure, please check the ingredients. Names of products should be accurate and ideally, match the packaging.

  • Products should correspond to the appropriate category.

  • Cosmetics must not be animal tested and this should ideally be stated either on the brand website or on the packaging itself.

  • Reviews of food products can also contain images and information about home-cooked dishes in addition to the photo of the product itself.

  • Products should be attributed to the brand and producer not the retailer/store where it was bought.

2. Donations

Only qualifying reviews can be converted into donation credits. We currently have over 60 global partners that you can choose to donate to. There is no limit to the amount of money you can donate to rescue partners.

2.1 Qualifying for donations

  • Only vegan reviews meeting our guidelines will generate funds for donations.

  • Reviews that are deemed to be written to game the system in order to earn credits, will not get the respective donation credits.

  • Reviews of products which are not in the correct category or are from unverifiable sources may not qualify for donation credits.

  • For every approved review, you are allocated money by abillion that you are then able to donate. You can choose who you donate the money to.

  • Donations made using reviews that do not qualify for donation credits may be delayed or canceled.

2.2 Processing donations

  • Processing can take anywhere from 1-4 working days as reviews are verified before donations are approved.

  • Claims are processed as a batch, so donation approvals can take up to 3 working days. You will get an email as well as an in-app notification once the donation is approved.

3. Posts

A post is a way for members to express themselves and share with the community. Suggested social posts that enable community growth might include sharing about daily habits or changes you have made or simply to inspire others. You can also use it to share stories of impact or celebrate successes or share downfalls on your path to living sustainably.

Members should create a sense of belonging for the community, not try to diminish it for others. Please respect the privacy and safety of others. Bullying, harassment, hate speech, graphic and inappropriate content will not be tolerated. Refer to sections 3.1 and 3.2 for further details.

3.1 Photos

Only appropriate photos will be accepted. Nothing vulgar, inappropriate, offensive or graphic is allowed. Graphic imagery includes, but is not limited to, shocking or graphic content, acts of extreme violence, nudity or sexual content.

3.2 Contents

Posts that are considered as bullying, harassment, adult content, hate speech, slander, advocating against sustainability, violence or encouraging harm to animals, the environment and people will be reviewed and removed. False information is not allowed. Any post flagged as false will be reviewed and potentially removed if information is blatantly incorrect.

Do not post illegal content or solicit or facilitate illegal or prohibited transactions.

4. Sales Post

A sales post is a listing on the abillion Marketplace in which at least 1% of each sale goes to the buyer as donation credits. Sellers, who must be members, can preset the percentage of the sale that goes to the buyer as donation credits up to 100%. Members can list products that do not encourage harm to animals, the environment, or people; products should not contain any animal products (including eggs, milk, honey and any other animal derivative). Members can sell second-hand or hand-made items while brands can list their products. Job posting, services and crowdfunding are not allowed on the platform. If you’d like to crowdfund, please drop us an email at [email protected] to discuss further.

  • Inciting users to engage another user in continued interaction or discussion after a user has requested for said engagement with that user to cease and desist (informally called brigading or dogpiling) may be considered harassment.
