Broccoli sprout seeds is one of three types

of sprouting seeds I recently ordered online from Mumm’s. The company is based in Saskatchewan, Canada.

I learned about sprouting several years ago as it’s an easy and convenient way to grow nutritiously dense sprouts without soil. All you need is a mason jar with a screen lid, water, air, and time. Two tablespoons of seeds yielded a packed mason jar of sprouts in just 5 days.

I love broccoli, but unfortunately I don’t buy it often enough. So getting the sprouting seeds to allow me to grow the sprouts often was a no-brainer. Once grown, this sprouts smell like broccoli. Like most sprouts, they have small, green leaves and white stems still attached to the seed. For reference, they resemble alfalfa sprouts.

According to healthline.com, “Broccoli sprouts are nutritional powerhouses.

They’re a great source of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, which are bioactive plant compounds. These compounds protect plants from the sun and insects, but they have numerous health benefits for humans,

According to the International Sprout Growers Association, a 3-ounce (85-gram) serving of broccoli sprouts packs:

Calories: 35
Carbs: 5 grams
Fiber: 4 grams
Protein: 2 grams
Fat: 0.5 grams
Vitamin C: 60% of the Daily Value (DV)
Vitamin A: 10% of the DV
Calcium: 6% of the DV
Just one serving of these sprouts provides high amounts of vitamin C, which is known for its antioxidant and immune-boosting properties.”

I simply add the sprouts to salads and sandwiches.

One bag of broccoli sprout seed was $19.54.
