Review of Midin Belacan 比林巴拉煎 at The Legend Vegetarian Cafe by dafnelately

I’m always skeptical of #midin with anything other than garlic 🧄 but having tried their salted fish fried rice https://app.abillion.com/reviews/635b6db8a33296a95e0a905d and easing in to vegan #belacan after having it on the side in my laksa at the temple recently https://app.abillion.com/reviews/635763c1af0a788748869028 I figured I might give it a shot 🦐 My time in West Malaysia trying some of the most awful belacan in my life and a tonne of terribly made sambal belacan traumatised me. Surely I should’ve given vegetarian restaurants a chance given that #vegansdoitbetter? 🌱 For the uninitiated, belacan is a condiment of fermented #shrimp paste though there are fish variants too! 🐠 The #plantbased version is often just as you may have guessed, #soybased 🫘 Cooked with the jungle fern, I actually really enjoyed it! Having my lunch screwed up sure helped but I still found myself slurping the extremely salty “gravy” 🧂 #veganisnotscary
