Cheap, affordable and great for making those summer rolls. I get them from my local

asian store.

Now this, this is #veganisnotscary . I always, always have a packet in my pantry

as these are so versatile. Rice paper facon (delight!), cold or hot noodles (cut them up and add them to warm or cold water and pour over chili sauce and chopped peanuts), add to soups, make spring rolls, wrap them around marinaded mushrooms or and lightly fry them (see Woon Heng, the food blogger for these ideas), or fry them broken up in sesame oil to make a fantastic cracker (great with salt alone or nooch, or vegan parm). The packets (depending on how many you use and how often) can last quite a while. Pretty packaging, although they can go 'limp' if not kept in an airtight sealed container (be careful to do so, as it makes cutting them, pre soaking, a lot easier). Swipe to see my facon, and a wrap (Cabbage, carrots, dried shitake mushrooms reviewed elsewhere, garlic, homemade tofu, 5 spice, sesame oil, soy sauce, and plum sauce from Woolworths- tbr).

Just to get anyone started, I've included the marinade recipe I use for easy reference. I've not found any better
Facon mix/marinade is from The EdgyVeg (Candace Hutchings?).
6 tbsp soy sauce
4 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp maple syrup
1/2 tsp liquid smoke
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
4 tbsp nutritional yeast
1 tbsp garlic powder

These rice paper sheets are amazing. Thet very versatile.

There are many things one can make with them, from spring rolls, to stuffed pastry pockets, and even rice chips for an easy snack. For the sake of this review i made some rice chips the other evening and it turned out great. One simply cut the rice sheet into smaller pieces. Place your frying pan on a medium heat with enough oil for deep frying or just about half the amount you would normal use for deep frying. Then make sure the oil is really hot before you start frying. Then fry it two to three pieces at time. You will notice that it instantly puffs up and forms a cup. Make sure that your pieces are not too big as they do expend in the warm oil. Then once the pieces have puffed up...remove from the oil and place on a paper towel to absorb the extra oil. Then continue till you have fried all your rice chips. Thereafter you can season or spice away. I would advise the a little seasoning goes a long way!!! So dont over season like i did..lol!! It has a great crispy texture, its an easy snack and can be served with your favourite dip.😁😁😋

Before i forget to mention- These i bought at the locial vegatarian centre in Newton Park, on 3rd Avenue. It was only R60 for a big pack.
